In collaboration with Flux Factory and the Metric System, FRED FOREST presents EGO CYBERSTAR AND THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY, a new installation on Second Life, 5-13 June 2010, at the Science Fair of New York.
Ego Cyberstar is a lost soul who has decided to go live in Second Life on a permanent basis. He shares with us his first impressions and second thoughts in a long monologue that expresses his existential anxiety—the meandering and nostalgic confession of a man torn between the abject real world he just left for good and his new home in the virtual world, which he is discovering for the first time, without great enthusiasm...
Cyberstar addresses the exhibition visitor directly, looking him in the eyes with poignant intimacy. Fred Forest deliberately employs an economy of movement, a near immobility that places an almost exclusive emphasis on sound, thereby accentuating a growing sense of malaise.

Confirming his international career after Sarajevo, Toronto, 0ttawa, Naples, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Philadelphia and New York... Fred Forest, exhibits in Lebanon, at the LEBANESE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS, BEIRUT. He pursues his artistic and critic practice in the continuity with the same line and the same consistency.

HIS EXHIBBITION/ACTION IN BEIRUT:
For an equitable sharing of a same and unique territory, founded on a national identity, one and indivisible, the experimental Center of the Territory functions as a model of simulation on Second Life, for the dialogue of the different communities that compose it.

For this new exhibition, he confides us: "The notion of Territory interests me long time ago and I made from it the active principle of my participative track. It perfectly applies to a country as Lebanon. This concept predents a same portion of earth, shared by men and women of good will, who converse under the seal of the common entity that legitimizes them. Certainly this positioning, here and now, can be considered by some as a pure utopia, but isn't the role of the artists to call the utopia, and tirelessly keeping on doing so, so maybe this utopia can become one day a reality? It's at least the teaching that bequeathed us in inheritance Roland Barthes, in his seminary held at the College of France in 1976, title : "How to live together?"

Between June 13th and July 15th, 2009, Fred Forest, presented by
ferdinand(corte), realizes a serial of conferences and performances with
Second Life, The Gershwin Hotel and the non for profit White Box Gallery,
directed by Juan Puntes, as support.

In an environment representing Wall Street and the American flag on Second
Life,the artist develops the following purpose : The Experimental Center of The Territory is a critical, political, social and collective reflection tool,
which goal is to interrogate and focus ourselves on the world wide crisis. A
crisis which origin is linked to the speculative mechanisms, which Wall
street is the emblematic symbol.

According to Fred Forest, artists, thanks to this crisis, have to infiltrate
the information channels to appropriate with invention the technological
communication vectors. They have to constitute resistance and action centers
opposing the fluid power to hard powers which run our society. Artists must
change their own environment, where the research of meaning, of beauty, of
the pleasure of senses and of mind, gave way to a brutal speculation, often with the approval of the system stakeholder institutions. Artists, in the
Internet society, have to become meaning actors. The original tool proposed by FredForest on Second Life, implement an exchange platform with the goal to
collect, to generate and activate remote proposals.

The objective being to tend to a more united world, a world independent of
the profit research as only finality of a society in crisis. The device
functioning for a public animation and participation is carried out with a remote line between ferdinand(corte)? at the White Box Gallery in New York and Fred Forest in Paris. A fifteen participants and artists group comes up this occasion to pursue the action in the future.
